I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."  Matthew 25:40

These words of Jesus speak boldly to challenge the people of St. John's... to go where he calls... to go when he calls... to serve those in need.

Since 2005, our members have served on short term mission trips, often partnering with other churches.  It is a mighty testimony to the dynamic synergy created when God's people come together to do His will.

Gulf Coast Mission Team
St. John's partners with other area Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregations to bring hope to the people of New Orleans.  Together with Recovery Assistance, Inc. Ministries (RAI Ministries), our team serves to rebuild lives through restoration of home, family and faith.

Latest Update from New Orleans!
On March 15th, with prayerful consideration, the Gulf Coast Mission Team pledges to partner with Recovery Assistance, Inc. Ministries (RAI Ministries) to remodel and reconstruct Trinity Lutheran Church (Claiborne, LA) into a multi-functional worship center serving the needs of the Lower Ninth Ward residents.  For more information see the proposed partnership parameters.

Teams will depart from Chicago from now until projection completion of June 2011.  If you are interested in learning more of this project and/or desire to serve on the construction or outreach teams, contact Cliff Berutti at

Youth Missions
Since 2007, our high school students have served at Handy Camp in Anderson, Indiana and at Mission Possible in Kokomo, Indiana.

Julie's Hope
In 2008, God challenged our congregation to take on an incredible project... to bring hope to a Katrina victim by rebuilding her home.

Our congregation first met Julie in October 2005 when she and her extended family were evacuated to the Chicago area.  They resided for many months at Camp Algonquin.  The relationship between our members and Julie continued after she returned to New Orleans in March 2006 where she resided in a FEMA trailer in her front yard.

In January 2008, the congregation heard God's call to help Julie and events quickly mounted to begin the restoration.  Read more about Julie's Hope.
